The pictures “myself as Plague Doctor / Doctor Schnabel” show self-portraits in the guise of a plague doctor with the typical beak-like mask, which was intended to prevent the spread of the contagious and deadly plague. This plague mask became typical of the cultur of the Venice Carnival. Although the doctor fought the fatal scourge, his workwear, easily seen from afar, became a symbol of the apocalypse. He appeared as a raven-like allegorical figure of death.

The diptych “final” emerged from a man‘s photo diary who, as he lay dying, documented his remaining time with the camera of his cell phone from his hospital bed. His last glimpse travels up to the transfusion stand, and wanders through the window to the helipad.

The project “room monument”, an exhibition on the search for traces of the Lundner family, was initiated by Kim Vanessa Böse in her flat at Plattenheide 40 in Bremen. It was in that flat that the Lundner family lived until their deportation to Auschwitz. Nine artists started a search for traces to preserve the memory of the family‘s fate.
The depiction of the family‘s living conditions hints at the children wearing watches, a detail that reflects the family‘s wealth. The watch is not only a sign of prosperity but also a symbol of transience and mortal-
ity. In the case of the Lundner family children, the watches went on ticking and measuring the short life ahead of them. The faces of the former residents of Plattenheide 40 have not been documented. I decided to depict the children “faceless” as a consequence by painting children‘s hands with watches on their wrists.
It all bears a close resemblance to watches and attributes that originate in our present time. Thus the cruelty of such a child‘s life that lasts only for a short period is not drawn back in historical time but remains topical.
